The top ten things to do in Cape Town - Number 1

The top ten things to do in Cape Town - Number 1

How can you go to Cape Town and not go up Table Mountain? This awe inspiring mountain just takes your breath away. You'll probably spend at least the first hour of your visit just starring at it! It dominates the city!

So, if you think the view from ground level is stunning then you just have to see the view from the top. Don't be too worried if you are afraid of heights it is solid enough that you can get a great view from 10 feet from the edge. But for the rest of us, looking over the city and surrounds is awe inspiring.

The cable car is well worth the cost of access to Table Mountain on its own. As you ascend up the side of the mountain, the base rotates so you are not looking at one thing all the way up. I think it did about one and a half rotations for the complete 5-minute trip. Once at the top there is a nice restaurant to have a quick snack and coffee. However by Cape Town standards there are a lot better places to have lunch.

There are some great walks around the summit that are well worth the time. Take in the unique flowers and shrubbery that grow on the windswept top.

We had a couple of guests stay at Ikhaya Lodge who were both in their 80's and clinically blind. I beleive they couldn't see beyond 3 feet in front of themselves. These restrictions did not stop them from travelling. Their determination to enjoy themselves was inspirational to all the staff. They visited Table Mountain and took lots of photos, i beleive so that they could: a) personally experience it for themselves, and b) see the view later. What a way to think!! Amazing, my hat goes off to you.

So, Table Mountain is a must. Number One!
